The Timiskaming Health Unit is reporting one new COVID-19 case, and has adjusted its earlier numbers.

According to the health unit, the latest case is an individual under the age of 20 who's home address is in the district, but who lives outside the area.

"They had spent some time in our region, and were asymptomatic while they were here. This individual is well and the case is now resolved. There have not been any additional positive cases linked to this individual at this time," reads the news release.

The total case count for the health unit is now 17.

For the second time in recent weeks, the health unit's case count has been adjusted.

The two most recent cases reported have been designated to other health units.

"Over the past week, the Timiskaming Health Unit has been involved with multiple cases of COVID-19 that are linked by home address to our health unit while also being linked to other jurisdictions. Ontario's case contact managing program was also updated last week and home address is no longer the sole reason to attribute a case to a health unit," reads the health unit update.

Last week, three cases were removed when the health unit revised its COVID-19 case count.

Timiskaming Health Unit acting medical officer of health Dr. Glenn Corneil said private gatherings are one the most concerning risks for spreading COVID-19 in the younger population.

"Now is not the time for large social get-togethers; you must follow provincial guidelines on gathering limits," said Corneil in a news release.
