Editor's Note: An outbreak has been declared, with the health unit confirming the 69th COVID-19 case in the region.

Extendicare Timmins is in a "suspected COVID-19 outbreak", according to a letter from its administrator.

In the letter to Extendicare Timmins family members, which was shared on their Facebook page, it says a staff member has tested positive.

"The staff member is asymptomatic for the virus and is currently isolating and recovering at home," it reads.

The case has not been reported by the Porcupine Health Unit yet. This morning's update reported there have been no new positive cases in the area since July 9. A bulletin with more informaiton is expected this afternoon.

The 68th confirmed COVID-19 case in the region was confirmed over the weekend. It is an employee at South Centennial Manor Long-Term Care Home in Iroquois Falls.

According to the letter from Extendicare administrator Kelly Roy, staff at the Timmins facility have been tested every two weeks since June 15.

"With community spread still being a major concern, this regular testing will help us detect new positive staff or asymptomatic staff early and help us limit the risk of transmission to residents they are coming in contact with to care for," she wrote.

Family members and non-essential visitors are not being allowed at this time.

"As well, all outdoor visits have been temporarily suspended; however window visits and virtual phone calls will continue to remain in effect," it reads.

This would be the third COVID-19 outbreak at Extendicare Timmins since the start of the pandemic.

Extendicare Timmins was the first institutional outbreak in the health unit's region. It was announced in early April after a staff member tested positive, and declared over April 18.

The second outbreak was in May after a resident tested positive during the screening of all long-term care staff and residents.
