NEWS RELEASE
SOUTH PORCUPINE FOOD BANK
*************************
The South Porcupine Food Bank Inc. has made some updated operational changes further to messages received from medical officers of health, federal and provincial government officials, and Porcupine Health Unit.

We are also providing updates on our Facebook page and voicemail - perhaps the easiest way to access current information regarding SPFB.

SPFB hours remain the same to serve those in need of food security in our broader community being 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesdays and 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturdays.

In terms of the new normal 'social distancing', we are only allowing two clients into the food bank at a given time, as well as advising those who are ill to stay home and not enter the food bank.

Clients who are ill can send a healthy trusted individual with your household identification for your food pick up and delivery.

We have a hand sanitizer station inside and are taking necessary precautions for our volunteers as well with hand sanitizer, washing station, disposable gloves, disinfecting wipes to clean all hard surfaces, as well as common sense to stay home if exhibiting any cold or flu-like symptoms.

We thankfully are currently reasonably stocked on most food items, but we are getting short on or out of the following items:

  • Baby wipes
  • Macaroni & Cheese
  • Cereals
  • Ravioli
  • Ham flakes
  • Canned Stew
  • Alphagetti
  • Granola bars

SPFB is gracious to receive monetary donations (tax receipts issued), such that we can keep up with purchases of perishable food items such as milk, margarine, bread, fresh fruits & vegetables and frozen meats and purchase non-perishable food items that we are running low on.

SPFB has been serving those in need in Timmins & Area since 1987, is operated by 30 volunteers, with monthly operating costs in 2019 averaging $6,325. In Feb. 2020, we served 259 people (171 adults & 88 children).

Please consider a tax-deductible donation. You may make donations by cash, cheque, or on-line (including securities) through Canada Helps.
