Province confirms 170 new COVID-19 cases today

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 170 new cases of COVID-19 today, up from 149 on Wednesday.

One new death was reported today. There have been 2,814 deaths in total.

Of the new cases, 55 are reported in Toronto, 28 in York Region, 22 in Peel and 12 in Ottawa.

To date, Public Health Ontario has confirmed 43,855 cases of COVID-19 and reported 39,474 recoveries.

There are 54 patients hospitalized with the coronavirus. Fourteen are in intensive care and nine are on ventilators.

The province has confirmed Ontario labs have processed another 24,669 COVID-19 tests, up from 17,605 on Wednesday. There have been 3,213,336 tests processed in total.

There are confirmed outbreaks at 16 long-term care homes in the province. There are 36 confirmed cases among residents and 39 among staff.

One new case has been reported in Northern Ontario, out of the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit. In Northern Ontario there are two known active cases.

The breakdown for the health units is:

• Algoma Public Health - 29 cases, rate of 25.3 per 100,000 population. There are no known active cases.

• North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit - 36 cases, rate of 27.7 per 100,000 population. The health unit has reported 38 cases. There is one known active case.

• Porcupine Health Unit - 74, rate of 88.7 per 100,000 population. There is one known active case.

• Public Health Sudbury and Districts - 94 cases, rate of 47.2 per 100,000 population. There are no known active cases.

• Timiskaming Health Unit - 19 cases, rate of 58.1 per 100,000. There are no known active cases.

• Northwestern Health Unit - 46 cases, rate of 52.5 per 100,000. There are no known active cases.

• Thunder Bay District Health Unit - 103 cases, rate of 68.7 per 100,000.There are no known active cases.

The Ontario rate of infection per 100,000 population is 295.
