A small business grant continues to generate support.

Ontario Power Generation has contributed $2,000 to the Timmins Chamber of Commerce's Small Business PPE Support Grant.

“At Ontario Power Generation, we maintain safety and wellbeing as a top priority and this contribution to The Chamber’s PPE Suport Grant naturally aligns with our  values,” stated Kate Cantin, Ontario Power Generation stakeholder relations advisor, in a news release.

“Our employees live, work, and play in Timmins and surrounding areas. Ensuring that our business community operates with supported safety measures will keep our entire community safe.  OPG has also proudly donated more than 1.1 million pieces of PPE to the Ministry of Health for distribution to hospitals and care facilities across Ontario.”

The grant helps businesses, non-profits and charities in Timmins and Chapleau with less than $2 million in annual sales that were deemed non-essential at the start of the pandemic.

The Porcupine Health Unit has entered Stage 3 of the provincial re-opening and most businesses are allowed to operate starting today.

Businesses can apply for up to $2,000 to help secure safety materials such as mask, gloves and sanitation equipment. They can also apply for free bottles of hand sanitizer.

“To date, The Chamber has approved a total of 136 successful applicants distributing grants of nearly $100,000, and this latest contribution by a great operation like Ontario Power Generation will continue to assist many more entrepreneurs with ensuring appropriate safety measures are in place. We’re asking those businesses who have yet to apply, to do so quickly, while the fund is still in place," said Chamber president Val Venneri.

Business leaders can still support the grant by contacting The Chamber.
