Potential COVID-19 exposure on flight, at 2 Timmins restaurants

There's a high-risk exposure for a Nov. 23 Thunder Air flight

In the wake of six new COVID-19 cases being reported, the Porcupine Health Unit has released potential public exposures.

There is a high-risk exposure advisory for a Thunder Air flight, as well as potential low-risk exposures at two Timmins restaurants.

The high-risk exposure is for the Monday, Nov. 23 Thunder Air flight from Timmins to Attawapiskat at 8:15 a.m. 

People on the flight are advised to self-isolate immediately and call the health unit at 705-267-1181 or 1-800-461-1818.

The potential low-risk exposures are Friday, Nov. 20 around 8 p.m. at East Side Mario's in Timmins, and Siva's Family Restaurant on Sunday, Nov. 22 around 6 p.m.

As a precaution, the health unit says people should self-monitor for 14 days. The monitoring period for East Side Mario's is Friday, Dec. 4, and Siva's is Sunday, Dec. 6.

To date, there have been 113 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Porcupine Health Unit region. 

Of the six new cases announced today, five are in Attawapiskat and one is in Timmins. There are seven known active cases of the virus in the region.

According to the health unit, an infected person can spread COVID-19 48 hours before experiencing symptoms or testing positive.

Typical symptoms include fever, new or worsening cough, shortness of breath, loss of smell or taste, difficulty swallowing, runny nose or nasal congestion, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain.

Atypical symptoms are unexplained fatigue or malaise, muscle aches, delirium, unexplained or increased number of falls, acute functional decline, exacerbation of current chronic conditions, chills, headaches, croup, and conjunctivitis.
