Potential COVID-19 exposure at Mike's restaurant: health unit

The health unit says the exposure considered low risk

People at a Timmins restaurant may have been exposed to COVID-19, according to the Porcupine Health Unit (PHU).

Through the investigation into the most recent COVID-19 case in Timmins, medical officer of health Dr. Lianne Catton said people at Mike's restaurant on Thursday, Sept. 24 from 5 to 8 p.m. may have been exposed to the virus. 

The health unit says the exposure to the public is considered low risk.

People who were at the restaurant during the affected time are asked to self-monitor for 14 days, which ends Friday, Oct. 9.

"The PHU is working with Mikes' restaurant who remain dedicated to the measures to protect both patrons and staff. Ongoing precautions will continue to be taken by management, staff, and patrons to reduce the risk of infection and prevent the transmisson of COVID-19," reads the news release. 

The 85th case of COVID-19 in the PHU region was reported today. It is it is an individual from 20 to 39 years of age. 

Their exposure is under investigation. The individual was tested Oct. 1 and is in self-isolation.

Earlier today, Conseil scolaire catholique de district des Grandes Rivieres reported a class at Louis-Rheaume Catholic School has been isolated due to a confirmed case. There is one confirmed case at the school, which is still open.
