NEWS RELEASE
PORCUPINE MUSIC FESTIVAL DE MUSIQUE
*************************
In a recent release, the organizing committee has announced the cancellation of the 2020 Porcupine Music Festival de Musique (PMFM). Acting under the clear direction from both the provincial and federal government, the PMFM is committed to doing its part to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 and encourage physical distancing.

We understand the delicate nature under which this message is being received, as all of our participants, their teachers, and parents, have worked tirelessly to prepare for this beloved annual festival.

“I would be remis if I did not acknowledge the efforts of our board of directors, donors, benefactors, and volunteers, without whom this festival would cease to exist,” said Mary Ellen Pauli, President of the PMFM.

“At this time, we would ask that our music community share this information openly with participants, their families, and their respective networks. Your support as we navigate the administrative logistics is greatly appreciated,” added Pauli.

Pauli went on to note how the festival is getting creative with the use of technology and how it plans to ensure that its participants can still get their moment in the spotlight.

“The PMFM Board of Directors knows too well the hard work and dedication of all students and music teachers in preparing for this year’s music festival and would like to offer students the opportunity to showcase their talents online.”

PMFM-enrolled participants are being asked to send in videos of their performances for a chance to be featured on the PMFM Facebook page, Instagram, and website. The video performances will be posted throughout the month of April. Participants who submit their videos will also be entered into a random draw.

Video Submission Details:

Video submissions must be emailed to [email protected] by Apr. 10, 2020 with the following information:

• Participants name and age;

• Music teacher’s name; and

• The name of the piece and composer.

Participants can submit a different video for every piece they were scheduled to perform at the 2020 Music Festival. Each video submission will represent a ballot towards the draw.

Pauli goes on to say, “we look forward to receiving student video performances. Be sure to monitor our Facebook page and please encourage everyone to like and share video submissions on Facebook so that they can reach a broader audience.”

“In the interim, we encourage you to keep music as a source of comfort as we all work towards a healthier state of affairs,” said Pauli.
