Ontario confirms 125 new COVID cases today

Public Health Ontario reported 125 new cases of COVID today, which is the highest daily report so far this month. 

The province also reported four new deaths related to the coronavirus, again, the highest single-day report for the month.The four individuals who have died include three people between 60 and 79 years old and one person over the age of 80. 

Though there were 16 health units in the province that reported zero new cases, others reported more than 20 new cases. Windsor-Essex reported 28 new cases, Toronto reported 27 new cases, and Peel reported 17 new cases. 

About half of today's new cases (54) are individuals between 20 and 39 years old, another 21 cases are people aged 19 and under, and 23 of today's cases are people aged 40 to 59 years old. 

The province has now reported a total of 40,870 lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19, including 37,126 recoveries (90.8 per cent) and 2,793 deaths. 

Based on information provided in the Public Health Ontario epidemiological summary, there are now 951 active, lab-confirmed cases in the province, including 41 people who are hospitalized with the coronavirus. There are 15 patients with COVID currently in intensive care, and 10 patients on ventilators. 

The province has confirmed 23,067 tests were processed since last report, bringing the cumulative total number of tests completed to 2.63 million.

In Northern Ontario there are two known active cases.

The breakdown for the health units is:

• Algoma Public Health - 27 cases, rate of 23.6 per 100,000 population. There are no known active cases.

• North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit - 35 cases, rate of 27 per 100,000 population. The health unit has reported 37 cases. There are no known active cases.

• Porcupine Health Unit - 72, rate of 86.3 per 100,000 population. There are no known active cases.

• Public Health Sudbury and Districts - 92 cases, rate of 46.2 per 100,000 population. The health unit has reported 91 cases. There are two known active cases.

• Timiskaming Health Unit - 19 cases, rate of 58.1 per 100,000. There are no known active cases.

• Northwestern Health Unit - 43 cases, rate of 49 per 100,000. The health unit has reported 44 cases. There are no known active cases.

• Thunder Bay District Health Unit - 100 cases, rate of 66.7 per 100,000. There are no known active cases.

The Ontario rate of infection per 100,000 population is 275.
