The Porcupine Health Unit is reporting another day with no new COVID-19 cases in its region. One of the past cases has also recovered.

To date, there have been 65 confirmed cases of the virus in the region. Of those, 56 are resolved and seven people have died. The health unit is following two known active cases of the virus.

It's now been been 15 days of no new cases being confirmed locally.

The health unit is aware of 4,652 tests being done locally, which is an increase of 22 from the last report. There are 146 tests under investigation.

"We need to continue to work together to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and keep the number of new cases within the health unit area down! With the province lifting restrictions and more businesses opening, we expect to see more cases. Continue to stay home if you are not well. Wash your hands frequently. Keep physically distant, but socially close. If you’re going to be in an area where physical distancing may be challenging, wear a face covering," reads today's update.

Testing has expanded to people concerned they've been exposed or who are at risk of exposure through their job, such as health care workers, grocery store employees, emergency workers, construction workers or people who work with children.

Symptoms of the virus include cough, fever, and difficulty breathing as well as sore throat/hoarse voice, difficulty swallowing, loss of smell or taste, fatigue, muscle aches, runny nose, loss of appetite, diarrhea, and nausea or vomiting.

There are COVID-19 Assessment centres in Timmins, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, Kapuskasing, Smooth Rock Falls, Hearst and Hornepayne. They are by appointment only and you must be referred by your primary healthcare provider or the health unit.

The PHU COVID-19 hotline is open today from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. It can be reached at 705-267-1181 or 1-800-461-1818.
