New confirmed test brings Timmins-area COVID-19 cases to 29

A man in his 30s is the 29th confimed case of COVID-19 in the Porcupine Health Unit region. 

According to the health unit, the man is in self-isolation and the investigation is ongoing. He was tested April 1 and is in the area of Cochrane, Matheson, Iroquois Falls and Smooth Rock Falls.

Locally, the PHU is aware of 407 COVID-19 tests being submitted. There have been 29 positive results, with five cases being resolved and two deaths. There have also been 332 negatives, with the results of 46 pending.

Last night, the health unit reported two COVID-19 deaths in the area. 

The first was a woman in her 60s who was admitted to Timmins and District Hospital. The second was a woman in her 50s who was admitted to Lady Minto Hospital in Cochrane.

Out of respect for the families, the health unit said no further information will be shared.

The health unit is reminding people that COVID-19 is circulating in the area and to take preventative measures such as physical distancing, and staying home.
