PORCUPINE MUSIC FESTIVAL

The 81st season of the Porcupine Music Festival de musique (PMFM) will be one for the history books since the founding of the organization. With the threat of a second cancellation and many disappointed participants looming, the PMFM has nimbly shifted to a COVID-friendly E-Festival format and finds itself perfectly in tune with current events.
“We want to give the music community a flexible and creative option when it comes to this year’s Festival,” said Mary Ellen Pauli, president of the PMFM. “This alternate edition of the Festival lacks nothing in creativity, with all entries being submitted and reviewed digitally and the final concert set to highlight top performances in an online broadcast available for all to enjoy.”
“Our four adjudicators are thrilled to participate,” added Pauli of the professional musicians slated to provide this year’s E-Festival participants with the priceless feedback that is an integral feature of the event. “As always, each adjudicator is an expert in their respective discipline of either strings, instrumental, piano, or voice.”
Regardless of the format change, the celebration of quality music-making remains at the forefront of the PMFM’s efforts. That said, this year’s E-Festival also aims to emphasize an element that is possibly even more crucial to the carrying on of the arts in a pandemic-ridden world: participation. While the legacy awards including the coveted Rose Bowl will not be awarded this year, scholarships borne of the support of our valued donors will still be bestowed upon deserving participants.
Like all prior Festivals, the E-Festival is a community effort. PMFM committee members are ready to support those interested in participating as they adapt to this year’s format. Registration for the E-Festival remains open until March 12, 2021.
