Mushkegowuk offices closed to public in Moosonee, Moose Factory

There is limited public access at the Timmins office

After the first COVID-19 case was confirmed in Moose Factory, there are changes at the Mushkegowuk offices.

According to a news release, the Mushkegowuk Council offices in Moose Factory and Moosonee are closed to the public effective immediately. There is limited public access at the Timmins office.

In Moose Factory and Moosonee, staff will get their work equipment and supplies from the office Monday morning. They will be working from home after that.

"We understand this creates some challenges in the services we provide. Please allow us time to organize and we will proved information on how to contact our staff on our Facebook page and website," reads the news release.

In Timmins, people are being encouraged to meet with staff over the phone or virtually.

"If no able to do so, our guests will be encouraged to make appointments with our staff and they will be met in a designated meeting room," according to the release.

People going to the office will be provided with masks and hand sanitizer.

The changes will be reassessed weekly on Fridays.

Currently in the Porcupine Health Unit region there are 76 confirmed cases of COVID-19.

The latest case was reported yesterday and is an individual in their 20s to 40s in Moose Factory. It's the first case of the virus in the James and Hudson Bay region.

Of the 76 confirmed cases, 64 are recovered and nine people have died. There are three known active cases in the region — two in Timmins, and one in Moose Factory.
