The latest COVID-19 case reported in Timmins is being removed from the local case count, according to the Porcupine Health Unit.

Yesterday, it was reported that an Extendicare staff member without symptoms tested positive.

"Upon further investigation, it has been determined that the initial test result is a false positive," reads a health unit bulletin.

"As a result, case #105 will be removed from the total case count for the health unit. The PHU acts quickly on any positive test result. All precautions are taken, such as isolation, while any investigation and follow up is being conducted, in order to reduce the potential risk of spread. This is especially important in situations that involve high risk and vulnerable populations."

The health unit's total COVID-19 case count is now 104. Of those, 92 are recovered and nine people have died. There are three known active cases — two in the Cochrane, Matheson, Iroquois Falls and Smooth Rock Falls area, and one out of the region.

There is still an advisory for potential exposure in effect for people who travelled on the 5 p.m. Polar Bear Express train from Moosonee to Cochrane on Friday, Nov. 13.

People who were in coach two, rows five to nine are advised to self-isolate immediately. Other passengers in coach two are being asked to self-monitor until Friday, Nov. 27. Other travellers should self-monitor.

The travel exposure is related to confirmed cases for people who have permanent addresses out the area and aren't included in the local case count. They are in self-isolation.
