It's been a week since the last positive COVID-19 case was reported in Timmins.

To date, there have been 67 confirmed cases in the Porcupine Health Unit region. Of those, 57 are resolved and eight people have died. There are two known active cases.

The health unit is aware of 7,513 tests being done in its region, which is an increase of 161 from the last report Friday. There are 341 tests under investigation.

In the past week, 945 tests were done. This is an increase from the week prior when 586 tests were done in the region.

In today's COVID-19 update, the PHU notes that it's working with childcare centres to implement procedures to limit the spread of COVID-19.

"One important way to limit the spread is to ensure that anyone who has symptoms not attend the childcare centre, even if they are mild. During the day if a staff member or child develops symptoms, they are isolated and arrangements are made to have them sent home immediately," reads the update.

"Testing is recommended for staff and children with symptoms and the decision of when they can return to the centre would be based on their test results. Those who test negative can return to the centre 24 hours after symptoms are gone. Those who test positive must follow the direction of the health unit and the centre for their return. In these situations, it can be frustrating for parents who have work responsibilities, but we all have a responsibility to work together to stop the spread."

Testing is open to anyone who feels they need to be tested, even if you don't have symptoms. To access testing, call your health care provider or the health unit.

There are COVID-19 assessment centres in Timmins, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, Kapuskasing, Smooth Rock Falls, Hearst and Hornepayne.

The PHU COVID-19 hotline is open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. It can be reached at 705-267-1181 or 1-800-461-1818.
