Health unit reports 67th confirmed COVID-19 case in Timmins area

The Porcupine Health Unit is reporting another new COVID-19 case in the region.

After more than a month with no positive tests, the health unit's 66th case was reported yesterday. It's a Timmins man in his 20s who acquired the virus and received testing outside the region.

The 67th case is a woman in her 70s who was tested at the Timmins Assessment Centre Sunday, June 21. She is in self-isolation at home. According to the PHU, the investigation is ongoing.

To date, there have been 67 confirmed cases in the region. Of those, 57 are resolved and eight people have died. There are two known active cases.

The health unit is aware of 6,568 tests being done, which is an increase of 361 from Friday's report. There are 376 tests under investigation.

Testing is open to anyone who feels they need to be tested, even if you don't have symptoms. To access testing, call your health care provider or the health unit.

There are COVID-19 assessment centres in Timmins, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, Kapuskasing, Smooth Rock Falls, Hearst and Hornepayne.
