A COVID-19 outbreak has been declared at the Golden Manor in Timmins.

According to the Porcupine Health Unit, one resident, who didn't have symptoms, has tested positive.

All residents and staff at the long-term care home were tested over the weekend as part of the provincial surveillance program of the facilities.

“We are all committed to ensuring the supports are in place to protect residents and staff in this home and will continue to monitor the results as they come in,” said Dr. Lianne Catton, PHU medical officer of health, in a news release.

Catton said the risk of infection in the long-term care home is low.

There are also currently outbreaks at St. Mary's Manor and Spruce Hill Lodge, as well as the Timmins and District Hospital.

As of this morning, there were 61 confirmed cases of COVID 19 in the region, however that wouldn't included this latest case. Of the positive tests, have been 48 resolved cases and four people have died.

There are 10 long-term care homes in the Porcupine Health Unit's region

Earlier today, chief nursing officer Chantal Riopel said two homes have been tested, three are in progress and two are scheduled for later this week. The remaining three will be completed next week before the May 15 deadline set by the province.

There are COVID-19 Assessment centres in Timmins, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, Kapuskasing, Smooth Rock Falls, Hearst and Hornepayne. They are by appointment only and you must be referred by your primary healthcare provider or the health unit.
