No new COVID-19 cases have been reported by the Porcupine Health Unit yet today.

To date, there have been 342 confirmed cases in the region. Of those, 310 are recovered and 25 people have died. There are seven known active cases — four in Moosonee and Moose Factory, one in Kapuskasing, and two in the Hearst, Hornepayne area.

Public Health Ontario reported 1,631 new cases of COVID-19 today. There were also 994 recoveries and 10 new deaths. There have been 309,927 cases in Ontario since the start of the pandemic. There have been 290,840 recoveries and 7,077 deaths.

The South African COVID-19 variant has been confirmed in Timmins. In mid-February, two tests screened positive as potential variants of concern and were sent for further testing to determine the strain. The health unit expects the second test will also be the South African variant. Both of the cases are resolved and there is no concern for further spread, according to the health unit.
