COVID-19: Here's the situation in Timmins today

The Porcupine Health Unit hasn't reported any new COVID-19 cases yet today.

To date, there have been 294 confirmed cases of the virus in the region. Of those, 219 are resolved and 22 people have died. There are 53 known active cases, none of which are in Timmins.

Over the weekend, a COVID-19 outbreak was declared at RYAM Lumber in Hearst after two employees tested positive. There are currently three ongoing outbreaks in the health unit region, including RYAM Lumber. Extendicare Kapuskasing is the largest outbreak in the region to date, where 49 residents and 20 staff have tested positive.

The province is not renewing the current state of emergency when it expires this week. The last day of the state of emergency is tomorrow, Tuesday, Feb. 9. Three regions will have the provincial shutdown measures that have been in place since Dec. 26 lifted this week. There is a phased-in approach over the next couple of weeks for the remaining regions. Public Health Ontario has reported 1,265 new cases of COVID-19. There were also 1,700 new recoveries, and 33 new deaths, eight were residents at long-term care homes. Since the start of the pandemic, there have been 279,472 cases of COVID-19 in the province, as well as 258,603 recoveries and 6,538 deaths.

There are COVID-19 assessment centres in Timmins, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, Kapuskasing, Smooth Rock Falls, Hearst, and Hornepayne.
