COVID-19: Here's the situation in Timmins today

No new cases were reported by the Porcupine Health Unit today. 

Since Jan. 10, eight new cases have been reported in the health unit region. That is a drop from the same period last week when 21 cases were reported.

So far, there have been 167 confirmed cases of the virus in the region. Of those, 135 are recovered and nine people have died. There are 23 known active cases — 16 in Timmins, one in Fort Albany, and six in the area of Kapuskasing, Opasatika, Val Rita-Harty, Moonbeam, Fauquier-Strickland.

There are two ongoing outbreaks in the area, one at Glencore Kidd operations in Timmins and one at Extendicare in Kapuskasing.

Public Health Ontario reported 2,998 new cases of COVID-19 today, (Jan. 15). Ontario has confirmed 231,308 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 197,194 recoveries and 5,289 deaths, of which 3,137 were individuals living in long-term care homes.

With a state of emergency and stay-at-home order in effect in Ontario, Timmins Police are focusing on several areas for enforcing COVID-19 restrictions. More on that story is available here
