There are no new or active COVID-19 cases in the Porcupine Health Unit region today.

To date, there have been 72 confirmed cases in the region. Of those, 64 are recovered and eight people have died.

The health unit is aware of 13,926 tests being done locally, which is an increase of 182 from the Aug. 7 report.

“Back to school is approaching and the Ontario Government has unveiled that masks will be one of many protection strategies used to reopen schools safely,” reads a PHU news release.

“Students in Grades 4 to 12 will be required to wear non-medical or cloth masks indoors in school, including in hallways and during classes. Outdoor times like recess can be used as opportunities to provide students with breaks from wearing masks within their cohorts.”

“Students in Kindergarten to Grade 3 will be encouraged but not required to wear masks in indoor spaces. Students may wear their own non-medical masks, and non-medical masks will also be made available for students. Reasonable exceptions on the requirement to wear masks will apply.”

COVID-19 testing is open to anyone who feels they need to be tested, even if you don't have symptoms. To access testing, call your health care provider or the health unit.

There are COVID-19 assessment centres in Timmins, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, Kapuskasing, Smooth Rock Falls, Hearst and Hornepayne.

It can be reached at 705-267-1181 or 1-800-461-1818.
