COVID-19: Here's the situation in Timmins today

No new cases, two recoveries and one death reported locally this week

It's been 20 days since the last positive test for COVID-19 was reported in the Porcupine Health Unit region,

This week, there have been two recoveries and one death related to the virus locally.

To date, there have been 65 positive tests in the region. Of those, 57 are resolved and seven people have died. The health unit is tracking one known active case of the virus. It is a woman in her 90s who tested positive April 21 and is listed as being admitted to hospital. She is one of the cases linked to the Timmins and District Hospital outbreak, which has been declared over.

The health unit is aware of 5,071 tests being done locally. This week, 479 tests have been done locally, which is an increase from from the week prior. 

Testing numbers in May, according to the numbers reported daily by the health unit, are:

• April 26 to  May 2 - 482 tests;

• May 3 to May 9 - 948 tests;

• May 10 to May 16 - 1,162 tests;

• May 17 to May 24 - 318.

For the local confirmed cases, 41 have been in Timmins. Of those, 35 cases are resolved and five people have died. There have been 23 cases in the area of Cochrane, Matheson, Iroquois Falls, and Smooth Rock Falls. Of those, 21 are resolved and two people have died. There has been one case in the area of Kapuskasing, Opasatika, Val Rita-Harty, Moonbeam, and Fauquier-Strickland and it is resolved.

Ontario Public Health reported 326 new cases of COVID-19 today. This week, the daily report from the province has ranged from 287 new cases (Tuesday) to 404 new cases (Monday). Since Jan. 15, there have been 27,859 cases in Ontario. That includes 21,810 recoveries and 2,266 deaths.
