COVID-19: Here's the situation in Timmins today

After a couple quiet days for results, an outbreak of the virus was announced at Timmins and District Hospital (TADH) Sunday after a patient — a woman in her 80s —tested positive.

TADH president and CEO Blaise MacNeil said it's not confirmed if she acquired the virus at the hospital. More from today's daily health table update is available here.

There has also been a second COVID-19 death in Timmins, it's the third virus-related death in the health unit's region.

In the Porcupine Health Unit region, there have been 50 confirmed cases. Of those, 30 are resolved and two people have died. 

The health unit is aware of 1,141 tests being done in the region. That is an increase of 70 over yesterday's report. There are 361 tests under investigation

For the local cases, 28 are in Timmins and 17 of those are resolved and two people have died, 21 are in the area of Cochrane, Matheson, Iroquois Falls, and Smooth Rock Falls and 12 of those are resolved and one person has died, and one is in the area of Kapuskasing, Opasatika, Val Rita-Harty, Moonbeam, and Fauquier-Strickland and is resolved.

Ontario Public Health reported 606 new cases of COVID-19 today, which is the first time the daily case increase has reached 600. There have now been 11,184 cases confirmed by labs in Ontario since the pandemic began, and 5,515 (49.3 per cent) of those people have now recovered. The report shows the Porcupine Health Unit region continues to have the highest number of cases of the health units in Northern Ontario.

Ontario health officials have released new modelling and potential scenarios in the province's fight against COVID-19. Officials suggest that the wave of new community spread cases appears to have peaked, but spread in long-term care homes and correctional facilities seems to be growing.
