COVID-19: Here's the situation in Timmins today

As the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Ontario increased by 43 to 251 today, there are still no confirmed cases in Timmins.

Porcupine Health Unit Medical Officer of Health Dr. Lianne Catton said more than 70 people have been tested for novel coronavirus in the region since last week.

A COVID-19 Assessment Centre opened today. It's by appointment only and located at Intrepid Place at the Canadian Mental Health Association Cochrane Timiskaming Branch building at 330 Second Ave. Find out what you need to know about accessing it here.

Timmins MPP Gilles Bisson is one of 26 people at Queen's Park today to vote on emergency legislation.

For Timmins Transit users, fares have been waived. Riders are being asked to enter and exit through the back doors and to keep a safe distance from the bus driver and other users. Only customers with personal mobility devises will be allowed to use the front door.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau sought to reassure Canadians that the federal government has "got your back," during the pandemic.
