The Porcupine Health Unit is offering up some reminders for people celebrating Canada Day.

Today, the health unit reported no new COVID-19 cases or recoveries in the region.

To date, there have been 67 confirmed cases of the virus. Of those, 57 are resolved and eight people have died. There are two known active cases.

The health unit is aware of 7,817 tests being done locally, which is an increase of 103 from yesterday's report.

In today's update, the health unit noted virtual celebrations are planned for Canada's 153rd birthday. Links to Timmins' videos can be found here.

"Other creative ways to celebrate include decorating your deck, dressing in red and white, and dropping off some Canada-themed treats to those experiencing social isolation. By staying apart, we will be able to come together in the future," reads today's update.

"If you or someone your know is hosting a Canada Day celebration, remember social gatherings are permitted to no more than ten people and the usual public health measures should be followed to prevent the spread. Avoid close contact like hugs, sitting right beside each other and sharing food with others who are not part of your household or social circle."

Testing is open to anyone who feels they need to be tested, even if you don't have symptoms. To access testing, call your health care provider or the health unit.

There are COVID-19 assessment centres in Timmins, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, Kapuskasing, Smooth Rock Falls, Hearst and Hornepayne.

The PHU COVID-19 hotline is open today from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. It can be reached at 705-267-1181 or 1-800-461-1818.
