The Porcupine Health Unit is reporting a 70th COVID-19 case in the region.

The new case is a Timmins man in his 70s who is in isolation at the Timmins and District Hospital. He was tested July 19, and the investigation into the exposure is ongoing.

Of the confirmed cases, 61 are recovered and eight people have died. There is one known active case of the virus in the region.

The health unit is aware of 10,678 tests being done locally, which is an increase of 161 from yesterday's report.

"This serves as an important reminder that we need to remain vigilant, COVID-19 is still circulating. It is strongly recommended that all community members follow the measures proven to reduce the risk of spread — physical distancing, hand washing, cough and sneeze etiquette, not touching your face, and washing commonly touched surfaces," reads the news release.

A mandatory mask or face covering order for indoor public spaces goes into effect in the Porcupine Health Unit region tomorrow (July 23).

COVID-19 testing is open to anyone who feels they need to be tested, even if you don't have symptoms. To access testing, call your health care provider or the health unit.

There are COVID-19 assessment centres in Timmins, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, Kapuskasing, Smooth Rock Falls, Hearst and Hornepayne.

The PHU COVID-19 hotline is open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. It can be reached at 705-267-1181 or 1-800-461-1818.
