21 drivers charged with impaired so far this year in Cochrane area

Members of the James Bay Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have laid charges in 21 impaired driving investigations in the first three months of 2024. Of the four James Bay offices, Cochrane investigated five, Hearst six, Kapuskasing seven, and Moosonee three.

Of the 21 occurrences, five were officer-initiated traffic stops, three were from a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) program, nine were traffic complaints from the public, and four were officers responding to collisions.

Seventeen of the drivers charged were impaired by the consumption of alcohol, while four drivers were impaired as a result of the consumption of a drug.

Drivers are reminded that no amount of alcohol or drugs in your system is safe when operating a vehicle. If you suspect someone is driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, call 911 to report it.
