Young offender among 2 charged in Timmins shooting

A third person is also facing charges, but those are in relation to a November incident

Two people are facing charges after a shooting in Timmins. 

Yesterday (March 20), gunshots were reported in the are of Sixth Avenue and Cedar Street North. 

Timmins Police says that officers were on the scene quickly and contained the area. Two people were detained in the area shortly after officers arrived.

Two separate search warrants were executed yesterday in relation to the investigation and three people have been arrested. During the searches, police seized cocaine and fentanyl, as well as two handguns.

A young person who can't be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act has been charge with 11 offences in relation to firearms possession and the controlled drug and substances act.

Jerome Campbell, 31, of no fixed address is also charged with 11 offences in relation to firearms possession and the controlled drug and substances act. He was held in police custody for a bail hearing.

During the investigation, Dwayne Carter, 20, of Etobicoke was also arrested on an outstanding warrant for charges in relation to an incident in November 2023. The charges include aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, pointing a firearm and other weapons charges, said police. 

He was held in police custody for a bail hearing.

None or the charges have been tested in court and the accused are considered innocent unless proven guilty.

The Sixth Avenue area has been active for police investigations in the last six months. 

In January, police issued an advisory about a heavy police presence in that area of town. In that incident, a man was arrested at the scene and a firearm was seized, though no further details were released.

In September 2023, two people were injured in a shooting and a man was charged with attempted murder.
