Woman arrested after recent strip mall thefts

The incidents occurred on Jan. 8 and 9 at a retail outlet, say police

The Timmins Police Service arrested a local resident near the intersection of Mountjoy Street South and Third Avenue during the afternoon hours of Sunday, Jan. 10.

While completing general patrols of the downtown core, a Timmins Police Service officer recognized a pedestrian as being a person involved in two separate theft incidents that occurred on Jan. 8 and 9 respectively at a retail outlet located at a Waterloo Road strip mall.

Once the grounds for the arrest were confirmed, the subject was arrested by the Timmins Police Service.

As a result, Jeanette Okimaw, 23, of Timmins was arrested and is charged with:  

  • Two counts of theft under $5000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada  
  • Two counts of possession of property obtained by crime contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada  
  • Two counts of fail to comply with probation order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada  
  • Two counts of fail to comply with undertaking contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

She remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for today at Provincial Court in Timmins to answer to the charges stemming from these previous incidentso
