Woman accused of assaulting police officer

The Timmins Police Service has charged a local woman with a number of Criminal Code offences stemming from an incident which occurred at a Maple Street South residence during the late afternoon hours of Friday, March 12.  

The Timmins Police Service responded to an incident where a female suspect attempted to gain entry into a residence.

When denied entry, [it is alleged that] the suspect became belligerent towards the occupants of the residence by causing a disturbance directly in front of the residence and then damaging the door frame of the residence.

Responding Timmins Police Service officers identified, located and arrested the suspect.

Upon being processed at the Timmins Police station, the subject assaulted a Timmins Police Service officer resulting in minor injury.

As a result of the incident, Brenda Hookimaw, 32 of Timmins, has been charged with:
    •    Cause disturbance contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    Mischief to property contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    Assault peace officer contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    Fail to leave as directed contrary to the Trespass to Property Act

The accused remained in police custody until released at a bail hearing on the strength of an Undertaking compelling her to attend at Provincial Court in Timmins on March 30 to address the charges laid against her.
