Verbal dispute leads to assault charges: Timmins Police

The Timmins Police Service has completed its investigation into a late afternoon disturbance that occurred on Sunday, March 14 resulting in injury to a 34-year-old male person.

The Timmins Police Service responded to a Cedar Street North occurrence where a male entered into a verbal dispute with a second male person that escalated to the point where [it is alleged that] the suspect struck the victim repeatedly resulting in injury.

The responding Timmins Police officers were able to identify, locate, and arrest the male suspect a short distance from the scene.

The person assaulted was transported by Timmins and District Hospital by ambulance for medical treatment for injuries sustained during the altercation.

Upon being processed at the Timmins Police station, the suspect [allegedly] assaulted a Timmins Police officer by spitting on him.

As a result, Jeremy Nakogee, 23, of Timmins has been charged with:
    •    Assault - cause bodily harm contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    Assault peace officer contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    two counts of fail to comply with probation order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused remains in police custody for the purposes of a bail hearing slated for today at Provincial Court in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against him.
