Victims threatened with weapon in Hearst: OPP

On Feb. 8, 2022, members of the James Bay Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an incident involving a weapon on Edward Street in the Town of Hearst.

The investigation revealed that numerous persons were threatened by an individual brandishing an edged weapon. No one was injured in this incident.

As a result of the investigation, Michael Moore, 41-years-of-age, of Constance Lake First Nation, was arrested and charged with:

  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose, contrary to section 88 of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Assault with a Weapon, contrary to section 267(a) of the CC
  • Causing a Disturbance, contrary to section 175(1)(a) of the CC
  • Uttering Threats - Cause Death or Bodily Harm (Three Counts), contrary to section 264.1(1)(a) of the CC
  • Carry Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition in a Careless Manner, contrary to section 86(1) of the CC
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order, contrary to section 733.1(1) of the CC
  • Resist Peace Officer, contrary to section 129(a) of the CC

The accused was held for Bail Court and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on March 9, 2022 in Hearst.
