Victim taken to hospital following assault incident at local tavern

The Timmins Police Service has charged a local man with assault related Criminal Code offences stemming from an incident that occurred early this morning at a Timmins tavern.

The Timmins Police Service responded to an incident where a 36-year-old male person was physically assaulted and sustained a neck wound at the hands of a male suspect armed with an edged weapon.

The assaulted man was taken to hospital for medical treatment regarding the wound he sustained during the altercation.

The suspect was identified, located, and arrested at the scene of the assault by the Timmins Police Service.

Based on the outcome of the investigation into the incident, Kip Stewart, 53 of Timmins, has been charged with:
    •    Aggravated assault contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused person remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for this morning at Provincial Court in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against him.
