Victim repeatedly punched after verbal dispute escalates: police

Police say the victim received medical attention for his injuries; a 35-year-old man is facing charges

The Timmins Police Service has investigated a disturbance that occurred during the evening hours of Saturday, Aug. 13 resulting in injury to a 27-year-old male person.

The Timmins Police Service investigated an occurrence where a male person entered into a verbal dispute with a second male person outside of a Spruce Street South residence that escalated to the point where the suspect struck the victim repeatedly with a closed fist.

The suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival.

Timmins Police officers were able to identify, locate, and arrest the male suspect at a Kimberley Avenue residence.

A quantity of a controlled substance was located on the suspect’s person upon arrest.

As a result, Vincent Belair, 35, of Timmins has been charged with:-

  • Assault contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada 
  • 2 counts of Fail To Comply with Probation Order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada 
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act

The accused remains in police custody for the purposes of a bail hearing slated for today at the Ontario Court of Justice in Timmins to answer to the charge laid against him.

The victim received medical attention for the injuries he sustained during the altercation.
