****************************
The Timmins Police Service has charged a Toronto area man with a number of Criminal Code, Highway Traffic Act and drug possession offences stemming from an incident which occurred early this morning (Dec 24) in Schumacher.

While completing patrols of his assigned patrol zone, a Timmins Police Service officer noted that a vehicle was being driven in a suspicious fashion on Father Les Costello Drive.

The officer observed that the vehicle was being driven at night without proper rear lights and that the driver proceeded through a stop sign and continued west on Algonquin at an extremely high rate of speed.

A traffic stop was initiated by the officer on Algonquin Blvd, where the driver proceeded to enter onto the property of a local industrial business, exit the vehicle, and flee on foot towards a motel in the area.

Additional responding Timmins Police officers rendered assistance to the initial officer and located the suspect within the motel and completed an arrest.

The suspect initially provided a misleading name when asked to identify himself to the police.

Once a genuine name was provided, it was determined that the driver was under suspension in the province of Ontario.

A quantity of a controlled substance was located as a result of their investigation.

As a result of the incident, Randy Wilson Yeboah, 22, of Etobicoke, has been charged with:

  • Flight from police contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Obstruct peace officer contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Possession of a controlled substance contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act
  • Dangerous operation of motor vehicle contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Drive while under suspension contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
  • Drive – no proper rear light contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
  • Disobey stop sign – fail to stop contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
  • Fail to identify self contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

Yeboah remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for this morning at provincial court in Timmins, to answer to the charges laid against him.
