Two search warrant in Kirkland Lake lead to drug trafficking charge

Police say suspected opioids and Canadian currency were seized as part of the search warrants. Total value of the seizure was approximately $35,000

On Jan. 7, 2021, The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) North East Region Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) with the assistance of the North East Region OPP Canine Unit (K9), executed a search warrant at a residence on Harding Avenue in the Town of Kirkland Lake and a second search warrant at a residence on Morris Avenue in Lebel Township.

Police seized drugs suspected to be opioids (fentanyl) and Canadian currency. Total estimated value of the seizure is approximately $35,000.

As a result of the investigation, Ryan Carlson, age 33, of Kirkland Lake, has been charged with the following: 

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking - opioid, contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, and
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5,000, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code.

The accused was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice by video on Jan. 11, 2021.
