Two facing drug trafficking-related charges in Hearst

OPP executed search warrants at two residences, seizing suspected methamphetamines, other drugs, and cash

On Nov. 17, 2021, members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), along with the James Bay OPP Crime Unit and members of James Bay OPP, executed search warrants at two residences from an ongoing drug trafficking investigation, on West Street, and Berville Avenue in the Town of Hearst. 

Once inside the residences, the officers located drug trafficking paraphernalia, and seized a quantity of suspected hydromorphone, suspected methamphetamine, suspected psilocybin, suspected cannabis resin (Oil), suspected cannabis resin (Gummies), and Canadian currency.

As a result of the investigation two persons were arrested and charged.

Michel Hoff, 67 years-old from Hearst was arrested and charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking -Opioid (Other than Heroin), contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA)
  • Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime over $5000 - in Canada, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)

Joel Gaudreault, 43 years-old from Hearst was arrested and charged with:

  • Possession for the Purpose of Distributing - Cannabis, contrary to section 9(2) of the Cannabis Act
  • Possession of a Schedule III Substance, contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA
  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000 - in Canada, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the CC

The accused are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on Jan. 19, 2022 in Hearst.
