Two facing drug and weapon charges in Kirkland Lake

Police seized suspected fentanyl and methamphetamine in the investigation

On July 11, 2020, officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) North East Region Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) investigated a drug occurrence and seized suspected Opioids (fentanyl) and Methamphetamine. Also seized were two prohibited weapons.

As a result of the investigation two people have been charged.

Luc Lacoste, age 43, of Kirkland Lake, was charged with the following:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance - Opioid, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) (three counts),
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance - Methamphetamine, contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA (two counts),
  • Possession of a Firearm or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order, contrary to section 117.01(1) of the Criminal Code (CC), and
  • Unauthorized Possession of Weapon, contrary to section 91(2) of the CC (two counts).

Jamie-Lee Briscoe, age 29, of Kirkland Lake, was charged with the following:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance - Opioid, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) (two counts),
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance - Methamphetamine, contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA (two counts), and
  • Unauthorized Possession of Weapon, contrary to section 91(2) of the CC (two counts).

The accused were released on an Undertaking and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Temiskaming Shores on Sept. 15, 2020.
