Two face drug trafficking charges following Elm Street search

The Timmins Police Service has charged two Toronto area men with a number of Criminal Code and Drug Possession offences stemming from the execution of a search warrant at an Elm Street North apartment building yesterday evening (Feb. 1).

Based on an ongoing drug investigation conducted by the Drug Enforcement Section of the Timmins Police Service while working in conjunction with platoon officers and the Emergency Response Team (ERT), a search warrant was executed allowing entry into the apartment.

As a result, the following exhibits were seized as evidence by the Timmins Police Service:
    •    6.4 grams of fentanyl (“purp”) with an estimated street value of $3,840
    •    approximately $10,000 in Canadian currency

The total street value of the drugs and cash seized is estimated at $13,840.

As a result of the incident, Daniel Gyan, 25 of Richmond Hill; and Romelle Morgan, 28 of Pickering, were arrested and have been charged with:  
    •    one count each of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act
    •    possession of property obtained by crime – over $5,000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

Both men remain in police custody at present awaiting a bail hearing slated for today at Provincial Court in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against them.
