Two face drug charges in unrelated incidents

Both individuals were wanted on outstanding warrants

The Timmins Police Service arrested two local residents on the strength of respective arrest warrants which were executed at the scene of two separate incidents that occurred over the weekend.

While completing a traffic stop during the morning hours of Saturday, April 2 at the intersection of Mountjoy Street South and Second Avenue, a Timmins Police Service officer determined that a passenger in the vehicle was a person currently wanted as being named in an arrest warrant held by the Timmins Police.

Once the validity of the warrant was confirmed, the subject was arrested by the Timmins Police Service.

Upon arrest, a quantity of methamphetamine tablets were located on the suspect’s person and seized as evidence.

As a result, Tyler Ferris-Fontana, 21 of Timmins, was arrested on the strength of the warrant.

He remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for today at the Ontario Court of Justice in Timmins to answer to charges resulting in the arrest warrant being issued in addition to a new count of:
    •    possession of a controlled substance contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act

Later that same day in a separate incident, a Timmins Police officer completing patrols recognized a pedestrian on Messines Avenue as being a wanted person named in a current arrest warrant held by the Timmins Police.

Once the validity of the warrant was confirmed, the subject was arrested by the Timmins Police Service.

Upon arrest, a quantities of controlled substances were located on the suspect’s person and seized as evidence.

As a result, Andrea Sutherland, 29 of Timmins, was arrested on the strength of the warrant and was charged with:
    •    two counts of possession of a controlled substance contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act
    •    fail to comply with release order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

She remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for today at the Ontario Court of Justice in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against her.
