Two charged in Kirkland Lake break and enter, gas theft investigation

KIRKLAND LAKE – On June 23, 2020, members of the Kirkland Lake Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of transportation fraud and shoplifting at a business on Taylor Ave. in the Town of Kirkland Lake. 

On June 24, 2020, members of the Kirkland Lake Detachment of the OPP responded to a report of two thefts of gas from businesses on Government Rd. W. and a break and enter on Harding Ave. in the Town of Kirkland Lake.  

Further investigation revealed the identities of the accused who were located and arrested with the assistance of the Temiskaming OPP. 

As a result two people have been charged.  

Tyler Reid, age 27, of Kirkland Lake, has been charged with the following:   

  • Transportation fraud, contrary to section 393(3) of the Criminal Code (CC),  
  • Theft under $5000, contrary to section 334(b) of the CC (three Counts),  
  • Break, enter a dwelling with intent commit indictable offence, contrary to section 348(1)(a) of the CC, and  
  • Mischief under $5000, contrary to section 430(4) of the CC.  

Sophie Peltier, age 35, of Kirkland Lake, has been charged with the following:   

  • Theft under $5000, contrary to section 334(b) of the CC (two counts), and  
  • Break, enter a dwelling with intent commit indictable offence, contrary to section 348(1)(a) of the CC.  

Both accused were released with release orders and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on Aug. 13, 2020, in Kirkland Lake.
