Transport truck driver charged for stunt driving

Police say the driver was going over 100 km/hr in a 60 km zone

(LATCHFORD, ON) - On Oct. 22, 2021, shortly after 4 p.m., a member of the Temiskaming detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was conducting pro-active patrols in the Town of Latchford.

A southbound commercial motor vehicle (CMV) approached the officer's location, travelling in excess of 100 kilometres per hour (km/h) in a posted 60 km/h zone. 

The 24-year-old driver from the Town of Caledon, is charged with Race a motor vehicle - stunt contrary to section 172(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA).

The vehicle was impounded for 14 days and the drivers licence has been suspended for 30 days. 

The driver was released by way of a Court Summons and is scheduled to appear at court on Nov. 25, 2021, in the City of Temiskaming Shores.

Aggressive driving, including speeding, is one of the leading causal factors in traffic deaths in OPP patrolled areas.
