Traffic stop near Cochrane leads to impaired driving, drug charges

COCHRANE On March 22, 2021, members of the James Bay Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a call regarding a motor vehicle that was driving all over the road approximately 25 kms south of Cochrane. Officers conducted a traffic stop and, investigation revealed that the driver was suspected to be impaired by drugs.

Further investigation by a drug recognition expert was completed and as a result the driver, Jessyka Veilleux, 31 years old from Cochrane, was arrested and charged with the following:
    •    Adult operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC),
    •    Adult possession of a schedule I substance - other drugs, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, and
    •    Adult failure to comply with release order - other than to attend court, contrary to section 145(5)(a) of the CC (two counts).

The accused was held for bail and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on March 23, 2021 in Cochrane.

The accused was issued a 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
