Traffic stop leads to outstanding warrant charges for Englehart driver

Police say the passenger also faced charges for improper plates, not insuring the vehicle

ENGLEHART – On April 26, 2021 shortly after 4 p.m. members of the Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped a vehicle for a traffic infraction on Wendigo Road, in the Town of Englehart. 

Preliminary investigation revealed that the driver was wanted on an outstanding warrant from North Bay. 

The driver, a 23-year-old resident of Englehart, has been charged with: 

  • Use plate not authorized for vehicle, contrary to section 12(1)(d) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA).  

In addition, she was transferred to the North Bay Police Service on the strength of the warrant.  

The passenger, a 25-year-old resident of Englehart has also been charged with: 

  • Fail to apply for permit on becoming owner, contrary to section 11(2) of the HTA, 
  • Permit use of plate not authorized for vehicle, contrary to section 12(1)(d) of the HTA, and 
  • Permit motor vehicle to be operated without insurance, contrary to section 2(1)(b) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act (CAIA).
