Traffic stop leads to numerous charges in Kapuskasing

Police say the 35-year-old was driving with a suspended licence

KAPUSKASING – On Oct. 9, 2021, members of the James Bay Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on a known suspended driver on Brunelle Road South in the town of Kapuskasing.

Police spoke to the driver and further investigation revealed that the driver was found to be driving with a suspended licence.

As a result, the motor vehicle was towed and impounded, but the driver fled on foot and was not arrested on the date of the incident.

On Oct. 27, 2021, members of the James Bay Detachments executed an arrest warrant and arrested and charged Isabelle Leclerc, 35-years-old of Kapuskasing, with:

  • Driving While Under Suspension-Novice Condition, contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA)
  • Fail to Stop for Police, contrary to section 216(1) of the HTA
  • Amber Light - Fail to Stop, contrary to section 144(15) of the HTA
  • Flight from Peace Officer, contrary to section 320.17 of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Obstruct Peace Officer, contrary to section 129(a) of the CC

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on Nov. 29, 2021 in Kapuskasing.
