Traffic stop leads to impaired charges for ATV operator

23-year-old was also driving with a suspended licence, police say

KIRKLAND LAKE - On Nov. 8, 2021 at approximately 9:36 p.m., frontline members of the Kirkland Lake Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) on O'Meara Boulevard in the Town of Kirkland Lake for a Highway Traffic Act (HTA) violation.

The investigation revealed that the driver was under the influence of alcohol. Further investigation revealed that the driver's licence was suspended under the HTA.

As a result, Mitchell Lambert, 23 years of age of Kirkland Lake, was arrested and charged with:
    •    operation while impaired - alcohol, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)
    •    operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the CC
    •    driving while under suspension, contrary to section 53(1) of the HTA

The accused was released on an Appearance Notice and is scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Kirkland Lake on Dec. 9, 2021.
