Traffic stop leads to impaired charge in Temiskaming Shores

A 53-year-old faces multiple charges

TEMISKAMING SHORES –  On January 24, 2021 shortly before 4:00 p.m., members from the Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting pro-active patrols on Highway 11 in the City of Temiskaming Shores.  

A vehicle had been travelling southbound and was stopped for a traffic infraction.

Further investigation revealed that the driver had consumed suspected controlled substances. The accused was transported to Temiskaming Detachment to conduct further tests.

As a result, Peter Doggett, a 53-year-old resident of the Town of Gowganda has been arrested and charged with: 

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC), 
  • Driver fail to surrender licence, contrary to section 33(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA), and 
  • Drive motor vehicle, fail to display two plates, contrary to section 7(1)(b)(i) of the HTA.  

The vehicle was towed from the scene and impounded. 

The accused was released by way of an Appearance Notice and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on Feb. 9, 2021 in the City of Temiskaming Shores. 

The OPP reminds motorists that any amount of alcohol or drug can impair one's ability to drive. If you observe a suspected impaired driver, please call 911 or contact the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122 and report it.
