Traffic stop leads to five arrests, drug and weapons seizure

On Nov. 26, 2021, frontline members of the Kirkland Lake Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on a motor vehicle for a Highway Traffic Act (HTA) offence on Poplar Avenue in the Town of Kirkland Lake.

Further investigation resulted in the seizure of drugs suspected to be opioids (including fentanyl), methamphetamine, cocaine and crack cocaine. Also seized was Canadian currency and three loaded hand guns.

Total street value of the seizure is estimated to be over $73,000.

As a result of the investigation completed by frontline members of the Kirkland Lake OPP Detachment, The OPP North East Region Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), and the Kirkland Lake OPP Crime Unit, five people have been arrested at charged.

Frederick Rosko, 32 years of age, of Kirkland Lake, has been charged with the following:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Opioids, contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) (Two Counts)
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Cocaine, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA (Two Counts)
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Methamphetamine, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA
  • Possession of Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm, contrary to section 95(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Occupant of Motor Vehicle Knowing There Was a Firearm, contrary to section 94 of the CC
  • Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm - Licence, contrary to section 92(1)(a) of the CC
  • Carrying Concealed Weapon, contrary to section 90 of the CC
  • Careless Use of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition, contrary to section 86(1) of the CC
  • Carry Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition in a Careless Manner, contrary to section 86(1) of the CC
  • Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the CC
  • Drive Vehicle with Cannabis in Open Bag, contrary to section 12(1) of the Cannabis Control Act 2017 (CCA2017)

Julse Davis, 27 years of age, of Toronto, Ont., has been charged with the following:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Opioids, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA (Two Counts)
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Cocaine, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA (Two Counts)
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Methamphetamine, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA
  • Occupant of Motor Vehicle Knowing There Was a Firearm, contrary to section 94 of the CC
  • Carrying Concealed Prohibited Device or Ammunition, contrary to section 90 of the CC
  • Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the CC

Aiden King-Whitman, 21 years of age, of Toronto, Ont., had been charged with the following:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Opioids, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA (Two Counts)
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Cocaine, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA (Two Counts)
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Methamphetamine, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA
  • Occupant of Motor Vehicle Knowing There Was a Firearm, contrary to section 94 of the CC
  • Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the CC
  • Failure to Comply with Undertaking, contrary to section 145(4)(a) of the CC
  • Passenger - Fail to Properly Wear Seat Belt, contrary to section 106(3)(b) of the HTA

Jacob Levesque, 22 years of age, of North York, Ont., has been charged with the following:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Opioids, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA (Two Counts)
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Cocaine, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA (Two Counts)
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Methamphetamine, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA
  • Possession of Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm, contrary to section 95(a) of the CC

A person 17 years of age, of Scarborough, Ont., has been charged with the following:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Opioids, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA (Two Counts)
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Cocaine, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA (Two Counts)
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Methamphetamine, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA
  • Occupant of Motor Vehicle Knowing There Was a Firearm, contrary to section 94 of the CC
  • Possession of Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm, contrary to section 95(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition - contrary to section 92(2) of the CC

All five accused were remanded into custody and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date.
