Traffic stop leads to drug and weapons charges for Timmins man

The Timmins Police Service has charged a local man with a number of Criminal Code, Highway Traffic Act and drug possession offences stemming from a traffic stop completed yesterday morning in the area of Sixth Avenue and Cedar Street North.

A Timmins Police Service officer had occasion to initiate a traffic stop of a passenger vehicle for a traffic violation.

Upon approaching the driver, the officer noted that an improvised weapon was within ready reach of the lone male occupant of the vehicle.

The driver was placed under arrest and the officer located and seized 6.5 grams of cocaine, 0.6 grams of pink fentanyl, 1.1 grams of green fentanyl, 1.6 grams of purple fentanyl, 1.7 grams of crystal meth, along with other drug paraphernalia on the driver’s person

The arrested person also provided a false name when asked to identify himself to the police.

Once a genuine name was determined, it was discovered that the driver does not hold a valid driver’s licence.

As a result of the incident, Dylan Doey, 22, of Timmins, has been charged with:

• Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
• 4 counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act
• Personation with intent to mislead contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
• Drive motor vehicle – no licence contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

Doey remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for this morning at Provincial Court in Timmins, to answer to the charges laid against him.
