Traffic stop leads police to suspender driver, suspected opioids: Kirkland Lake OPP

KIRKLAND LAKE - On Feb. 5, 2020, members of the Kirkland Lake Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on Government Road West in the Town of Kirkland Lake, Ont..

The investigation revealed that driver's licence was suspended and that they required an ignition interlock device to operate a motor vehicle. Further investigation resulted in the seizure of drugs suspected to be opioids.

As a result, Jean Corriveau, age 50, from Kirkland Lake, Ont., was charged with the following:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance - Opioid, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA),
  • Fail to comply with probation order (two counts), contrary to section 733.1(1) of the Criminal Code(CC),
  • Drive motor vehicle not equipped with an approved ignition interlock device, contrary to section 41.2(13) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA),
  • Driving while under suspension, contrary to section 53(1) of the HTA, and
  • Possess more than one licence, contrary to section 35(1)(e) of the HTA.

The accused was released by way of an appearance notice and is scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Kirkland Lake, on April 9, 2020.
